Altea
The dome of the mediterranean
Charming old town

Altea

Altea has been rated as one of the most beautiful locations on the Costa Blanca, as it still retains the flavor of a small fishing village despite the urban expansion. It has been called the cultural capital of the Valencian Community, the Dome of the Mediterranean and Altea la Blanca.

Ideally located in a beautiful bay between the Morro de Toix and the Natural Park of the imposing Sierra Helada and protected from the winds by the Sierra de Bernia. Due to this unique location the climate is warm, temperate and with little rain and in summer the sea breeze tempers the sensation of heat.

It is the capital of the Marina Baixa region in the province of Alicante (Autonomous Community of Valencia, Spain), and through it passes the Greenwich meridian.

Currently, 35% of its inhabitants are foreigners, mainly from the European Community. It is a holiday destination and a place of retreat for many who, attracted by its excellent temperature, peace and the good temper of its people, have been establishing themselves here.

The old town has been preserved to provide the ambience of by-gone days with narrow cobbled streets winding up to the blue domed church and its square poised on a plateau at the highest point. A place so steeped in character that it has been a haven for artists over the years.

Since the late sixties, Altea has been a refuge for poets, singers, potters, painters and other artists…
